About the Event

Dr Susan Owens is an art historian and award-winning writer. She was formerly Curator of Paintings at the V&A, where she had curatorial responsibility for Constable’s paintings, drawings and oil sketches. Susan now lives in Suffolk and writes about artists and landscapes. Her recent books include The Ghost: a Cultural History (2017); Spirit of Place: Artists, Writers and the British Landscape (2020); Imagining England’s Past (2023) and The Story of Drawing: an Alternative History of Art (2024) which won the Apollo Book of the Year award. Suffolk has been celebrating the 250th anniversary of Constable so we are especially delighted that Susan’s visit will coincide with the paperback publication of a BBC Book of the Week, the critically-acclaimed Constable’s Year: an Artist in Changing Seasons (2026).
