About the Event

Recently read as BBC Radio 4's Book of the Week, The Oak Papers is a meditative and healing book about the lessons we can learn from the natural world, if only we slow down enough to listen.   James Canton has taught the MA in Wild Writing at the University of Essex since its inception in 2009, exploring the ties between literature, landscape and the environment. He is the author of Ancient Wonderings: Journeys into Prehistoric Britain and Out of Essex: Re-Imagining a Literary Landscape, which was inspired by his rural wanderings in East Anglia.

In this online event, filmed exclusively for Suffolk Book League, James will be in discussion with Suffolk Book League committee member Andrew Burton, who also teaches in the Literature, Film and Theatre Studies Department at the University of Essex.  After reading from the book, James will answer questions not only from Andrew but from members of Suffolk Book League who have submitted questions in advance.  Join us for this illuminating and fascinating event in the company of one of the UK's foremost nature writers.

‘With rare delicacy and precision, James Canton has captured the magnificence and mystique of the oak tree. The Oak Papers is a book of deep knowledge, perception, and love.’

PHILIP MARSDEN, author of The Summer Isles
