About the Event

Our March BookTalks Online speaker is Fiona Sampson. Fiona's new book is released in March, Two Way Mirror: the Life of Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning has come down to us as a romantic heroine. But behind the melodrama lies a thoroughly modern figure, whose extraordinary life is a study in self invention. This book holds up a mirror to the woman, her art, and the art of biography itself.

Fiona has been published in thirty-seven languages and received an MBE for services to literature in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours, 2017. Fiona has also been shortlisted twice for both the T.S. Eliot Prize and the Forward Prizes.

A prolific broadcaster and critic, Fiona Sampson serves regularly on international juries. She directed an international poetry festival in Wales for five years before becoming Director of the Stephen Spender Memorial Trust for literary translation. Her study of musical form in poetry, Lyric Cousins, and her latest collection The Catch (Penguin Random House), both appeared in 2016.
